Hey to all who may still be reading this journal, or not reading it as the case may be.... I'm still alive! My many apologies for not boring you with updates over the last 8 months. I have no excuses for it really, other than RL got in the way and I only had time for a few brief comments on other people's journals. Quite shameful really. I shall attempt to do better in the future.

So what have I been doing for the last 8 months? I wish I could say it was something thrilling but it's pretty much been University keeping me busy and away from finding time to update. First year exams went well, which meant I passed the year comfortably and can meander on to my second year in a couple of weeks. Other than that I have been tearing my hair out by chasing up this years landlords to fix everything in our new house. Oh, what fun! On the upside, the house is rather nice and in a cunning manoeuvre I managed to claim one of the biggest rooms.

Fandom-wise I've been a bit of a lurker. But to summarise! I thought the new Harry Potter book was rather good, wasn't a fan of the epilogue but understand its necessity. Thought it was a bit too drawn out in the middle what with them constantly on the run and thought Snape really deserved a better death. That said! I was relatively pleased with it and so ends an era.

Smallville I don't have much to say on. The end of the season was poor really and I'm getting quite fed up of it. Lana is quite obviously not going to be dead that I wonder why they even bother putting her in mortal danger in the first place. Even Lex is making me lose interest. It is a sad time.

A saving grace for TV this year has to be Heroes. Brilliant show, some great characters and altogether awesome season arc. Felt the finale was a tiny bit anti-climatic but the overall feel of the season was superb. Also Nathan/Peter? Yummy. In a completely dirty wrong way of course.

House was really awesome this year too, funny as ever and kept me entertained all the way through. All that needs to be decided is Wilson/House or House/Cuddy? Hmmm.... They really could go either way, lol. Was sad to see Veronica Mars end, because yeah, it has dropped in quality a bit since the first season but it still outshines other teen dramas by light years. It will be missed.

Dabbled in Lost again this year, some might say against my will, and came to the same conclusion; it is still too slow moving to the point of boredom and fails to hold my interest. Also watched CSI on a regular basis this year, not as good as it used to be but I am amused by the ruckus the Grissom/Sara relationship is causing. Should be interesting to see where they go with that next year.

Other than that I saw a few films at the cinema but nothing that really stood out from the crowd to me. That said, I still have to see Transformers which I've heard is excellent.

Oh! And I did manage to stretch to writing a brief Doctor Who dialogue based fanfic called The Problem With Apologising. Speaking of Doctor Who, bit disappointed with this year. Not a huge Martha fan, it has to be said. She just isn't my cup of tea. Not especially looking forward to Catherine Tate either. The Master was awesome, though I didn't like the finale at all. Big let down on the whole and it could have been so much better!

But anyway, to all who have bared through the desolate silence. How're you all doing?

I'm so annoyed.

It's two in the bloody morning, pouring with rain and some fucktard decided to purposefully set off the fire alarm. Why?? Why would you think that's a good idea?

Anyway the fire brigade showed up pretty quick, still took them half an hour to clear the building though. Some people only had on shorts and a vest top - they must have been freezing! I'm so glad I was still up when it went off; at least a shirt and jeans is a bit warmer...

Le sigh. Rant over, I shall retire to bed now.

Day Two

So I'm here.

The room is very nice, though as a few of my mates have pointed out, my en suite does resemble something of a caravan bathroom. *shrugs* Beggars can't be choosers.

There was a bar crawl last night through the four major colleges on campus; Keynes, Rutherford, Eliot and Darwin which ended at the campus club. Shamefully I was rather shattered by about 11:30pm so I went back to my room. Not that I got much sleep as there seemed to be some sort of corridor party.

But, yeah, it's been good so far. I've met a few new people, mainly those on the same corridor as me. And mainly guys, interestingly.

I had my gym induction earlier, though they were showing a topless Clark onscreen in the background at the time, so I had to concentrate extra hard on the guy talking. :-P

Tonight, there's quite a lot of parties going on and Hypnotist night at the campus club. Should be a laugh.

House, 3x01, Meaning

So, House has returned...

Y'know I didn't realise how much I'd missed House's caustic wit over the summer, it was good to have him back.

I generally liked and enjoyed the episode, character interactions were great and the writers love of picking House apart was as interesting as always. And yay! for running and skateboarding House.

Didn't think much of the resolution to PotW - his story was touching but the sudden and unbelievable injection, which cured him from 8 years of being in a vegetable-like state seemed a bit reaching.

Aside from that, you so know that Wilson convincing Cuddy to deceive House has 'bad idea' written all over it... Tsk.

Speaking of bad ideas *looks at last scene*

Methinks I sense 'Return of the Cane'.

Seems that a lot of time has passed since my last update. Oddly, it feels much the opposite for me. Still, I seem to have been doing something everyday for the last two weeks which, like, never happens for me. *is disconcerted*

Mostly I've been shopping for Uni - less than two weeks people! - I've pretty much managed to renew my winter wardrobe, got a single duvet (so long double bed... *woe*), towels, cooking appliances and stuff that's listed under the strict* Halls of Residence guide at Kent. There's also been a ton of applications and paper work to do and fill out, which is less fun. Tomorrow I must accomplish: changing my bank account and switching my mobile phone network. Orange is ridiculously expensive these days...

Also? Listening to the Captain Planet theme tune in the House of Fraser changing rooms = bloody awesome.

Exam Results

I passed!

Still not quite sure how I managed it, but I got two A's and a B. The B was in History as somehow I spectacularly failed my Stalin's Russia paper which brought my grade down a bit - I knew it went badly but I didn't think it went that badly though. Still, I'm not complaining! It's a good B.

With those results it also means I got into Kent Uni - yay!

Other observations: the new companion's outfit looks quite cool; bearing in mind that they've got to make her noticeably individual from Rose. Though it does seem like they're treading a fine line.

I don't think I'll ever be able to walk again. My feet are killing me; all blistered and whatnot - owwie!

Turns out 'Next' needed me for an 8 hour shift yesterday evening and then another 8 hour shift early this morning. I think I must have packed, lifted, shelved, shelved on ladders and unpacked at least a hundred crates and boxes yesterday. Today was a whole different kettle of fish though; we had nice customers, pissy customers and weird customers. Oddly it was the busiest from 5:30am to about 9am, after that it emptied a little - not by much though.

Still, it was interesting even if every muscle in my body is aching like a mad thing. Y'know I'm pretty sure this post is lacking in some sort of coherency...

Now, I'm off to read some fanfic and put my feet up.

So, yes, that post I promised over a week ago...

Firstly 'Doctor Who', the incredibly sad finale. Well, damn. What an ending, eh? Poor Rose, I'm not sure if I would have preferred her dead rather than leaving her in a state of misery in an alternate dimension. Though they have left it open for her to return I suppose, what with the Bad Wolf bay and everything. Still that goodbye scene about broke me - I just knew he wouldn't have time to tell her he loved her. Typical. Still, I think his expression said it all really.

The pissing contest between the Daleks and Cybermen was absolutely classic - "This is not a war. This is pest control." Brilliant!

Didn't actually think much of the plot, nor the extended Pete/Jackie reunion, which sorta drew me out of the action and somewhat dire circumstances. Yet the final scenes more than made up for any plot discrepancies I felt there were.

I went to see 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' as well that day, gotta say I wasn't as thrilled as everyone else seems to have been. Don't get me wrong I though Johnny was fantastic and the appearance of Barbossa at the end would have earned a cheer from me had the cinema not been so packed, but I did feel awfully bored in some parts. It really felt like its full two and a half hours and dragged quite a bit in places.

Orlando Bloom, though better in this film, was as bland as ever. Keira Knightely amused me quite a lot in her scene where she was trying to get the men to stop fighting. Loved Norrington in this movie, he looks very good scruffy and the darker personality was mucho pleasing.

I was pretty 'meh' with Davy Jones and his crew. I wasn't honestly interested, except for the fact that their presence made Jack more amusing.

So, not as good as the first movie IMO, though the ending did improve my overall opinion. The three-way fight was classic, plus - cliffhanger ending! I worry though, will this mean less Jack?? I surely hope not.

Finally, I saw 'Superman Returns' on Friday and I actually really, really enjoyed it.

- I thought Brandon Routh was a brilliant Superman, I would have liked to have seen more of his Clark Kent though. His costume grew on me as well, though I still think it's too high around the neck.

- Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor was great. Though, I still wish they'd made him a little darker. He was at his best kicking the shit out of Superman - that was very chilling. Also, I'm glad he wasn't just tossed into jail at the end; it left it open for him to return.

- I was pretty 'meh' with Kate Bosworth. I don't think she's as bad as some people have made out. Certainly her acting wasn't, her character just wasn't written very well. Hopefully that's something Bryan Singer will take into account if there's a sequel.

- Poor Richard. I quite liked James Marsden in this, his character wasn't anything special but I think that was the point. He reflected some of the best human qualities and it's sad that Lois will never favour him.

- Heavy biblical references and imagery, no?

- The flashback sequence was nice, though maybe a bit unnecessary. Still, at least it showed Clark having fun with his powers which I wish Smallville would do more of.

- I think the 'Krypton Remains' storyline was a missed opportunity. They could have added some more depth to the character by having him a little more cut up about finding next to nothing left. Instead it felt like an easy way to create a bit of conflict and tension for the characters.

- I saw the Kid twist coming just from the trailer, only - major plot hole! Lois seems to know Jason is Superman's kid, but didn't he kiss away her memories of their encounter? Or did he just focus upon her forgetting he was Clark? Hmmm.

- The ending was a little too drawn out, that said the 'Superman is taken to hospital' idea was quite interesting.

- Awesome effects, especially the plane crash sequence at the beginning. I really enjoyed that bit.

- The music! Gah! The music was wonderful to hear again! For me, that's what really gelled it together with the originals.

- I worry that it seemed like a retelling of the first film at times, just on a grander scale. Also, I think unless you're a Superman fan then this movie could be very forgettable for you.

I tells ya, the last few days have not been my friend. Nuh-uh.

On Sunday, when I was supposed to be going to my cousins 'Welcome Home Party'; I had a migraine the size of Texas - sure sign I shouldn't have gone, really. Still the bitching from the family really wasn't worth it. So I went, albeit a bit later than planned.... Most. Boring. Thing. Ever.

Don't get me wrong, I love my cousin but I didn't even see her that night - or her sister. Just loadsa people I'd never met before; still I'm fairly certain she had a good time. 'Course fate decided that headaches and boredom weren't enough entertainment and gave me food poisoning to top the evening off. So, yeah, I've been feeling a bit rotten lately.

Alas, at least Italy won the World Cup. And as for Zindane, well, what can I say that hasn't already been mentioned? Tsk. Good headbutt though.

I went for my induction day at 'Next' today where I had to restrain myself from drifting off during their safety video, which was full of contradictions and told me 'useful' things like 'how to hold a box'. A lot of it seemed like common sense but I guess they have to clarify.

My first shift is next Saturday at the ungodly hour of 5am. Means I'll have to get up at about 3:30am, scary thing is I'm actually looking forward to it!

I still have to write my thoughts on 'Doctor Who' and 'Pirates...' but I figure I'll do it after I've seen 'Superman Returns' tonight. Which, despite everything, I'm really looking forward to seeing. *bounces*

Also Mum rang up the other day for the sole purpose of informing me that she'd finally watched an episode of the new 'Doctor Who' series and is in love with David Tennant. Yes, she is very slooow... *rolls eyes*

I have a job! Went to an interview today at 'Next' to get a position as a Summer sales temp. I think the job is designed to kill you, at least that's the impression the manager gave.... Can't say I mind much though, it'll definitely be an experience.

I have an induction day sometime next week, but before then - Pirates of the Caribbean! I'm off to see that Saturday with a couple of friends before watching the 'Doctor Who' finale. Should be awesome.

Aside from that I indulged in a sinfully large curry tonight whilst watching an episode of 'Firefly'. Who is yummier though? Mal or a curry? Hmm, tricky... :-)

Haven't been up to much lately, just a few Doctor's appointments so I managed to watch Saturday's 'Doctor Who' quite easily...

Y'know I'm still not 100% sold that Rose is gonna bite the dust. They're pushing it too much that it feels like they're purposely trying to mislead the audience. *hums* Do you like my new house by the Nile? :-)

'Course if she doesn't die that can only mean she gets left behind somehow, which would be a bit tragic. If she's not going to die then it would be good to at least give her something worthwhile for her future, like Captain Jack or Mickey has. Speaking of Mickey, I finally felt some of the love for him this week - he was very cool in his few scenes.

As was Jackie, actually. "If we end up on Mars, I'm going to kill you." Bwa!

Tracy-Ann Oberman was very good, she does evil so well. Looks like Dirty Den isn't as dead as she'd hoped though. ;-) Bet that joke's getting old.

I must say that I saw the Dalek ending coming given the trailer the week before. I'm still not sure about it yet.... Hopefully it'll work quite well. Though if I was the Doctor I would not be pleased, surely there must be some cosmic rule preventing his two worst enemies joining forces? Hee.

ETA Season Three Spoilers: This article was released today. Forgot to mention it - d'oh! I don't actually have a reaction to it yet, not really. I mean, I'm sad Billie's leaving but, I dunno.... Maybe its the oppressive heat, 'cause I got nothing.

Difficult. Though I think House and Spike would be amusing. The sarcasm would be great. Oh yes.

Oddly, not Lex; though I wouldn't mind picking his brain. I think Clark, actually. He could speed us round the World or go for a visit to the Fortress of ~~Dildo's~~ Solitude.

Eh, I'm quite happy with it actually. Though I think season two's overall story arc could have been planned better, it lagged a little in the middle.

8. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic)from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them.
Heh. Relationships on this show don't seem to last very long. I'd say Tony and Jack, at least up until this season anyhow. I like how it's progressed and changed, how they started off resenting each other but earnt one another's respect and, from there, friendship. They trusted each other implicitly at times and had some nice parallels as the seasons went on.

9. If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and#3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be?
Depends on who was drowning. If it was the Doctor and House, then I should choose House 'cause the Doctor would just regenerate. Yet, on the whole, I'd be more likely to favour the cast of Doctor Who over the cast of House.

10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4, what order would you choose?
I'd put Lex/MR before Lana/KK; as, IMO, he's a more important character.

11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like and what would their role be?
An alien. Just because I think they've had every other kind of character on Buffy. He'd have to be very intelligent but dark, not always honest and essentially looking out for himself. Kind of a male Faith.

12. What happens in your favourite episode of show #2?
That's really tricky 'cause I like so many. Last seasons finale was pretty good, I mean, Duncan ordering a hit? It's gotta go somewhere near the top. I might have to side with lastscorpion about 'Weapons Of Class Destruction' though, not only for the brilliant scene with Haaron beating on Trina's boyfriend, but also the Logan/Veronica progression. Mostly I like select scenes spread across the season, so it's hard to wittle it down to just one episode.

13. If you could kill off one of the characters of #1, who would it be and how would you do it?
Oh, wow. This is close to the mark. *g* Since they've all died and come back, or died in an alternate universe apart from Rose, I'm gonna choose her. She sacrifices herself in order to keep the Doctor safe and liberate the human (or an alien) race, much like in series one, but this time he doesn't save her at the last minute. I think it's the only way she could die.... To make it extra angsty though, maybe the Doctor has to choose between her and the World? Guilt for Gallifrey and Rose's urging makes him choose the latter. She dies in front of him.

Yep, I'm harsh.

14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose?
House, definitely. '24' bores me now. More interesting characters on House, as well.

15. So, I saved the best question for last. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person?
So many to choose. Right now? The Doctor. Nine would be good but I wouldn't say no to David Tennant. Nuh-uh.

I finished Dan Brown's 'Angels and Demons' the other day. I liked it. It took me a little while to get into it though, and some patience and concentration through all the scientific and religious exposition. But once I did, it hooked me right through to the end. T'was interesting stuff, despite the somewhat unbelievable ending. So yeah, I enjoyed it.

Now on to the apparently controversial 'Da Vinci Code'....
